REGENT PARK

This mixed-use development is part of Phase 1 of Toronto Community Housing Corporation’s revitalization of Regent Park. This ten-storey building features ground floor retail access from Parliament Street, daycare for 64 children on two levels, underground parking, and 84 rent-geared-to-income residential units above.

The architectural language is inspired by Toronto’s loft typology of large expansive windows and a brick exterior. The building steps back at each of the two communal landscaped terraces on the south Cole Street elevation: these terraces benefit from bright south light and deep overhangs. The building will be to LEED Gold Certification Standard for the base-building, residential interiors, and daycare.

KMA was heavily involved in facilitating this multi-stakeholder project during the consultation process, weekly meetings were held to keep the project on track and on budget. Toronto Children’s Services was actively involved in the development of the design. The Design Review Committee presentation was well-received and proceeded with minor revisions. Unit plans were presented to the Tenant Review Committee and accepted without modification.
